album cover

My final album cover, I changed it from my old initial idea as I found this idea more  interesting
I kept with the theme of time as the band asked me to by turning the eye into a clock, this didnt take too long I simply pasted a photo of a clock face over the eye and used the multiply layer effect to make it transparent. I kept with the polaroid theme of my initial idea and added a pattern over the photo breaking it up into pieces.
I added colour fills to the different segments apart from the main segment.
I am quite pleased with the end result but I think the clock eye could be improved as it isn't very visable from a distance.

final fashion shoot edits

These are the final edited shots for the t-shirt designs I used the same depth for field effect and colour fill effects that I had used in my rough edits, the two larger images are my favourites due to the poses and the effects I used seemed to work really well on them

A couple T-shirt edits

These were my first attempts at editing some of the t-shirt photos.
The idea to crop the images down came from imagining that the t-shirts themselves were on sale and that these would be the thumbnails that consumers could click on to buy them.
the process was extremely quick and simple I used the levels tool to fiddle with the colour levels until I was happy, I then duplicated the layer and used Gaussian blur on the duplicate layer then using a soft eraser took away some of the blur around the focused area to add depth to field effect, I then added a colour fill layer to the image, using a different colour to every photo and then using an overlay layer added the band logo, the overlay meant that the band logo could be seen but would not cover up any of the photo underneath.
I was pleased with the final images and may even use them for my final piece.

work based learning initial designs

These are some of the initial Ideas for my blog and t-shirt designs.
I had researched other band album cover and have been heavily influenced by the Polaroid effect and I am going to try this effect out during the process of editing photo's for my own album cover.
I decided to try something new for my t-shirt designs, while researching t-shirt designs I noticed that most band t-shirts were just the band's logo and in some cases album art printed on the front. I intend to print
the bands initials on the pocket on the chest of the t-shirt and then print the full band logo on the back of the t-shirt as shown in these sketches.

Brothers Grimm final cover

This is my final cover for the Brothers Grimm fairy tales book.
I decided to spread out the trees in the background more and added mushrooms and giant dice to make
the forest seem more enchanted and weird but at the same time keep the creepy ambiance that I intended.
I also moved the wolf silhouette to the back cover to make the image a double page spread.

I had trouble on placing the text on the template I decided on placing the text on a burnt paper texture using the dodge tool and soft eraser to create the effect, I think it turned out rather well.

just some character design

Nothing too interesting just working on some drawing techniques and styles, I still need to work on anatomy a bit. I am starting to enjoy adding detail more and more I had fun playing with the patterns on the swords hilt and facial expressions.

Ministry of sound FINAL

Due to lack of time I couldn't use my first Idea, instead I have used a range of stock images brushes and typographical patterns to create this poster, I had typed out all the performing Dj's names by scratch to create this pattern it was an extremley long process. I am rather happy with the way my ministry of sound logo turned out, I had taken a stock image of a crowd and used the overlay layer effect to merge it into the logo.
I feel I could have placed the text a lot better but due to lack of time I had rushed it

brother's grimm draft

This was a rough draft of what the final book cover would look like.
I used Photoshop to assemble the Red riding hood doll, This wasn't very time consuming.
I then drew out the trees separately and then scanned them in and placed them in photoshop placing a paper texture over them.
I also used the Gaussian blur effect to give background trees depth for field.
I then came up with the Idea to have a wolf silhouette to make a confrontation.

Red Riding Hood Character net

This is the character net for my brother's grimm book cover I had to draw the character in pieces and will later assemble them for the photo, I added an old paper texture to make the character look like an illustration from an old Victorian novel.

Bistro

Bistro logo design
For this project we were asked to create a logo for the college staff bistro, I took alot of inspiration for my final design from 1950's diner logos, originally I had been against using a city background for the logos as i felt it looked overused and cheesy, however when I tried it for this logo it seemed to fit with it. This Logo was initially going to be my backup Logo but i had decided my first Logo did not appeal to the target market so i decided to work more on this logo.
The background was just made using a mixture of shapes on the shape tool, i then copied and pasted the background and turned it black to create a shadow.
Out of all my designs i feel this could be seen as an advertisement logo for a bistro.

Band Logo

Band Logo
I created this logo as a freelance project. A friends band were due to release their first album, I offered to design their logo for them. I began by researching famous band logo's to get inspiration to what suited them and the sound of their sound. I looked at various punk rock band logos such as Blink 182, +44, Paramore and Yellowcard. I took great inspiration from a Paramore logo I found during this research, the logo looked gritty and grundgy, by this point I had tried various different designs that were more on the safer side.
I created the grittier design on Adobe Illustrator, I started by typing the name in a simple text and font, to create the worn away, gritty look, I used a white graphite brush effect to go over the text.
I sent the Logo designs to the band and this one has been chosen as their official logo.
