urban outfitters packaging

this is the oackaging that I had made for Urban outfitters.
I tried to stick to the type of packaging and feel that the brand offers its consumers, it has a natural and friendly feel to its packaging which is all 100% recyclable.

I made the net using graphic styles on illustrator and am very pleased with the final outcome.
I will keep the skills and experience I have learned in this project to further develop my own brand and its overall feel.

Decman business card

This is the business card I created for Decman Productions.
In my honest opinion I do no like it, I feel that it is unique and does stand out but not in a way that reflects a film maker, the pixelated squares seemed like a nice touch at first and it definitely was eye catching and filled up space but it seems to fit more with a video game developer or some one in IT than a film maker I will go back and re think this idea before I send it over to Declan.

Saint Kidd

Since the start of the course I have always taken a keen interest in independent clothing brands.
There is something about them that just seems different than generic highstreet brands, independent brands seem more original and seem to put a lot more love and care into what they do, it inspires me looking through different independent branding webstores and gives me ideas and inspiration when developing steamline (my own brand in progress).
Saint Kidd is one of my biggest inspirations the brand is unique and original and seems to really connect with their consumer, giving out free tote bags with every t-shirt purchase, hand wrapped t-shirts and keeping a blog showing you the best ways to integrate their t-shirts with the latest trends.
Saint kidd is definitely my current favorite brand and has inspired steamline a lot with my up coming designs.

Starship photo edits

These are a few photo edits I have done in my spare time, they were inspired by work I had seen on Tumblr in which imagery or scenery was overlaid on a body.
The whole process wasn't to difficult I just selected the parts of the body I wanted the imagery to focus on and then pasted the imagery in it then using blending modes created a nice overlay effect, I then edited the base image of the body adding saturation and blur effects to take away focus from it and put more on the imagery.
The left one is my favourite, it seems to give a really nice effect on the body like it was in the photo in the first place been projected onto the body.
The name starship doesn't really have any reference I just wanted a name that related to the galaxy theme of the images.

These saint Kidd video blogs are very interesting the founder of the brand Dougie Poynter explains the creative process and theme of each of the brands t-shirts. It is very inspiring to see how much work and dedication the Saint Kidd team puts into their clothing and makes me even more eager to get my own brand out there or work for one like this, the whole process seems extremely enjoyable and creative.

Printing

I have stumbled upon an idependant screen printer on the internet and have gotten in touch with him regarding my t-shirts, the website he runs is called vinosangre and it contains his full portfolio of print, most of which are independent brands like mine, I have gotten intouch with him to give me a quote on 20 t-shirts of the same print, I have been given the quote of £85 for the job which will contain 5 tees of each size. once I get the funds I will be ready to order.

Decman productions

these are all of the logos I put together for my friend Declan for his up coming independent film making company, Decman Productions, I did some research over the internet looking at other film makers logos such as fox and universal but also looking at lesser know agencies as well.
The lesser known ones were a lot more inspirational due to them been more simplistic and had an all round warmer feel to them than that of the more higher budget film makers.

this was really fun to do as I enjoyed playing around with the different fonts and type face and Declan had chosen one of the logos as his main one, this has overall given me experience in type and branding.

Claymore avenue logo remakes

This is the original logo for the band ^^
I have decided to remake the logo for the band Claymore Avenue, I did this while referencing them in my portfolio. I noticed the current logo looked a little disjointed and I could clearly see where the C and A had been stuck together. This again is development in Digital design here it wasn't so much as practicing with anchor points and handles in illustrator to create the C and A I outlined both the letters and used the anchor points and handles to connect them accordingly without the letters looking warped or skewed, the process did not take too long, roughly about 30 minutes with some added logos that I may use as t-shirt designs to replace the ones I did for the band last year.

All over print

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOQCb1t5dxA

This video contains a guide on how to create all over print t-shirts.

All over print tees seem to be massively in trend today, while I am prepping steamline up for a summer launch I am still coming up with idea's for prints an all over print is something I would definitely want to try maybe in vest form also. The video was a great help showing the process of the print and what to expect from the final product faults and all.
I will make some mock ups of an all over print.

Drop Dead Clothing production steps video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC-VJ_ee2Hc

This is one of the most inspirational videos I have found on the subject of clothing and branding that I want to pursue next year and in career, the video takes you through the complete process of a tee from brainstorming ideas to the final production shipped to the consumer, the video has shown me a lot and has given me a better understanding of how the whole process works and if anything has made me even more eager and determined to take this route in career.

Steamline promo and website launch

I have decided that I need some promotional material for my label before it's launch, this was for fears that I would be investing a lot of money for something that wouldn't sell, I decided to model the prototype tees that I had made using heat press, I got around 60+ photo's but only 3 were decent enough to use, I edited the ones used and added the label's logo  and promotional links, the finished productions are on my facebook and are used for the website banner page, I have also decided to release the heat press tees online until I get the funds to screen print and until the brand gets a little more attention.

It's nice that campaign poster

For this piece I decided to go for something that I am less familiar with I mixed Typography with my own photography.
This was a rather fun change for me as most of these skills used a relatively new to me and I really like the final outcome.
the main priority in this piece was to gather a general feel that would attract the target market it's nice that were after, which was primarily students, I decided to give this a more student feel by including items that would appeal to them eg. bags, headphones, books etc.
The main focus point and definitely the best part for me was the its nice logo spray painted on the skateboard.
Once the photo had been taken I edited it and then began placing the typographical elements giving the magazines slogan the biggest font to attract the consumer, I also noticed the logo on the board was slightly unreadable so I added one of the logo's I had made digitally onto the piece

Paramore Typographical posters

Typography is something that I haven't had much experience in I decided to try it out for an online competition in which you were asked to make typographical art for the band Paramore to celebrate their newly released self titled album.
The first two were fairly straight forward, I carefully placed a snippet of lyrics for a particular song and made the main words stand out by giving them a layered 3D effect, I did this just by alternating the type colour from red and blue on each layer, I then add a photo of the band that I have edited myself as the background.
The next one was a little more out there but as a whole more difficult to read, I tried to recreate the band's logo out of the entire lyrics from one of there songs, visually I really like this piece but there is absolutely no chance of reading it in the right order I may try make it more readable in the future.

UCAS Application

It is time to apply for UCAS to go into further educations I have applied for
Leeds college of art
Manchester metropolitan
Newcastle college
northumbria university &
Bradford college
I have done some research on each of the courses but I primarily picked these based on location either staying in newcastle where I am now or moving a back to Leeds or near leeds.

It's nice that logos

A range of logos i made for it's nice that brief in which I had to sell the magazine to a new target audience, I decided to make something a little different to the already existing logo.
I had in mind that these designs could be used as designs or stencils for spray paint which was something I was going to do anyway in my final outcome. I eventually produced these three the basic black logo, alternative logo including website link and a galaxy alternative background as I have found that this is in trend with the young adult audience and may go down well without looking like the magazine is desperately in search of a fresher audience.
The logo's were not too hard to make in illustrator and I very much like the final results.

Minimalistic Posters 2

The second set of minimalistic posters I created using the pen tool in illustrator, they depict the characters of Gunter and Finn of adventure time and Sonic the hedgehog.
I found the process similar to that of my last set of posters but I was exceptionally quicker at making them and found them a lot easier to make than that of the first set.

Abandon ship

Abandon ship apparel is another clothing line that influences me.
The label is very unique in terms of its design using an alchemic, satanic feel in its designs and there all over print t-shirts are like nothing I have seen before the girl all over kitten t-shirt print for instance.
The label also seems to really connect with it's audience over social networking taking the time to answer nearly all comments directed to them.
The label was also the first to inspire me to create an all over print tee ( of which I'm still unsure of where to get this done.)

CV

minimalist posters

admittedly I have slightly fallen in love with this minimalist style of poster.
I came across them by complete accident when flicking through Tumblr, I have no idea who the artists are but these are a few of my favourites.
I love the retro feel that these give off and the gritty overlay texture, these served as my main inspiration for creating the gurren Lagann posters on illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator Posters

I made these retro posters using illustrator.
after completing my digital skills module, I decided that I was never going to improve my skills in adobe illustrator if I didn't put in the patience and practice.
using images I had seen and collected over the internet I decided to make minimalist posters for Gurren Lagann, a television series I had just finished.
I took a piece of iconic clothing that each of the 3 main characters wear throughout the series and make them into vectors using the pen tool, each took around 2 (very frustrating) hours, but once completed I couldn't have been happier with the end result, although these designs wouldn't be much to many of the other students in the class (and would probably take them considerably less time to make) I could barely make a simple shape with the pen tool before.
This has helped me come to grips with anchor points, handles and selection tools, these are all things I have had knowledge of in college but I find myself having more patience when I'm not constrained to a classroom, These have proved rather popular on my Tumblr page and have 50+ likes and reblogs.

Petite feedback

I recieved feedback for my live brief today.
Unfortunately the client decided to go for another logo, it would have been nive if I had been chosen but I have gained experience in skills I don't normally practive such as illustrator, type and fonts that i will use in the future.

Steamline templates

I created these template boards and product templates for Steamline clothing in illustrator.
I created these merely for presentation purposes, to show off ideas I have for t-shirt prints in a much more professional way should someone be interested in the label.

brothers gimm book cover 2

I decided to do another brothers Grimm book cover for my portfolio now that I have gained a bit more confidence and experience using the pen tool.
I decided that my first one would also be included in my portfolio as a much more over the top piece where as this one would stick to the minimal and simplistic effects I had used before.
Due to the era of the books release I also added an old paper texture overlaid to make the book look worn down and tattered I feel the effect works rather well.

statement of intent

This is the statement of intent that I had prepared for my interview at Newcastle college for the top up third year.
I had to answer a few questions that will ultimately show what aspect of graphic design I will work on over my time on the course and how I intend to go about it and what I will have produced by the end of the year. It was straight forward enough and went down well in the interview I received a conditional offer.

Seb Lester talk

Calligrapher Seb Lester came in to give a talk and presentation.
He talked about his life, how he got into art and how he had changed and developed as an artist, dead set on one career path and ending up been on a completely different one.
But the one thing that stood out for me during this talk and has somewhat inspired me is the dedication he puts into his work, not only does he do this as a profession but he is constantly practicing and developing his calligraphy in his spare time and looking at the end results this type of dedication to a subject area you love clearly pays off.
